A Brief History of the Organization in Vellore District

Sri Puttru Maharishi Tradition dates back to the year 1516 when the Saint was found under an anthill inside the fort of vellore. He was a saint and to escape from the heavy rain he took shelter in the anthill. He started to practice austerity even under the anthill. People discovered him and placed him under a tree, a day later he woke up from his austerity and blessed the devotees. People worshipped him and used to call him as PUTTRU MAHARISHI. He created the traditional educational institution called GURUKULAM and taught traditional siddha medicine, astrology, spirituality and incantation. This Gurukulam tradition continued with efficient teachers and the present Guru(Teacher), Dr.K.P.Arjunan is 47th Guru of Sri Puttu Maharishi Tradition.

Dr.Arjunan while Practising siddha medicines had a soft corner for the weaker sections. To help the poor in need, he started SRI PUTTRU MAHARISHI SOCIAL & MEDICAL SERVICE CENTER as a Voluntary Organization in 1980. Through this center, Dr. Arjunan extended several helps to the weaker sections of the society. In 1980, the center was started as a small organization with known friends as a forum to help the poor in need. During these 27 years, the center has evolved as a landmark for Vellore. The prime aim is to protect and popularize the deteriorating Siddha system of medicine among common public. For this PMSMSC started to conduct free siddha medical camps in various villages, hilly areas and remote hamlets. To inculcate the feeling of tradition, we used to conduct exhibition of medicinal plants in schools. To kindle the hidden talents in the poor Students, the center in co-ordination with Govt.Museum, Vellore conducted several free drawing courses in the grass field in front of the fort of vellore.
